Flora grew up in the world’s most livable city, Vancouver, Canada, where she gained a first-class BSc in physics, with a minor in English literature, from the University of British Columbia. She spent her third year on exchange at the University of Glasgow. Maybe it was the fish and chips, maybe it was the single malt, but for some reason she moved to Britain in 2002, and currently lives in North-East London.
Flora worked as a web producer at a videogame company, a technical writer, and a software development manager before thinking, “hey, I want to focus on what I really love: science and writing”.
In 2008, she gained an MSc with distinction in science communication at Imperial College London — a specialised, pre-vocational science journalism course for people with a science background. Her main interests are creative non-fiction, science writing and radio, and she hosted a weekly show on Imperial College student radio.
After a stint as a freelance science writer and broadcaster, producing work for New Scientist, BBC News online, and theĀ BBC World Service, she now works full-time as a technology reporter at CNET UK.
Flora also does freelance web development work, helping local community groups get online.
